Scientific and didactic activity of the Department of Food Hygiene and Public Health Protection of the Institute of Veterinary Medicine, Warsaw University of Life Sciences, covers all strategic areas of food chain biosecurity. These are: Feed hygiene, Examination of slaughter animals and meat, Hygiene of game animals, Food safety of animal origin, Milk hygiene, Zoonoses, Protection of public health in emergency situations. The Department also conducts two postgraduate specialization studies for veterinarians: “Hygiene of slaughter animals and food of animal origin” (Specialization No. 15)
and “Diseases of non-domesticated animals” (Specialization No. 10), which facilitates direct contact, exchange of experiences with specialists in areas extremely important for the Veterinary Protection of Public Health. We also undertake activities integrating the scientific community around the problems of broadly understood food safety.
It should be emphasized that currently the Department has a group of experienced, young scientists, specialists in the field of modern laboratory diagnostics used in the system of ensuring the safety of food of animal origin. Human capital is our most valuable asset.
